Tonight I am feeling nostalgic as I know that all of my co-workers from my old job, my previous life for 10 years, are heading back to work tomorrow. I never really fully appreciated the first day back to school, although I did enjoy the anticipation of seeing all my friends again. But that only ever lasted a few days. Now as I am on the outside feeling thankful for a job that I love, co-workers that are great, and a schedule that is perfect for me to focus more on building my business, I still miss the good ol' days of working at East Early Childhood with my friends. And tonight when I was feeling a little sad, I didn't go to my computer to find pictures I have on my hard drive. I went to the pictures I have printed. The frame with the pencils and eraser that holds my last photo with our whole staff in our pink shirts. The loose print of everyone on the playground. The prints of the first time I really felt like an OT when one of my kiddos ate a new food when we were playing!
When you want to remember a special time in your life, do you really want to go to a computer and search through a hard drive or search through facebook? Or do you want to reach out and touch something? To have an album or a frame to hold in your hands and give you a sense of being grounded as you are remembering the past. To be able to look at your walls or your desk regularly and reminisce, that is what photography is all about to me. It's not enough to just take pictures...we have to print them! This is a reminder not just for anyone reading this, but also for myself. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but I feel that a printed picture that you can enjoy every day...that is truly priceless.
