Pardon me if this blog post gets a little long and sappy…I am feeling nostalgic and a little emotional. I am just getting back from vacation, during which time my husband and I visited friends who moved away from St. Louis about 3 years. Before they moved away though, I took pictures of their first child for newborn, 6 months, and 1 year sessions. He had a pretty epic cake smash in the kitchen of their old house before they moved. Their second child was born in the summer, so thankfully it worked out for us to visit Michigan that summer when she was only about a month old. So, I essentially did her newborn photos and last summer I was determined to make it back to visit and do her first birthday cake smash because I couldn’t stand the idea of not taking those photos!! I love that even though they won’t see me often, their kids will remember me as the picture lady. And I also love going into their home and seeing the photos I have taken on their walls and remembering the fun times we had taking them! We just took pictures of the now four and two year old cuties, and even snuck in a few quick family shots!
Now, here is why I am feeling emotional besides having to say goodbye to the friends we visited. One of the families that I met purely because of my photography (and because that friend we just left in Michigan referred me to this family years ago) is moving away. I have taken pictures of their family since their first son was 3 months old, and he is now FOUR! I saw this family every 3 months that first year, and then every three months from newborn to cake smash when baby brother was born. And of course there were some other family sessions in there occasionally too! And then in January their baby girl was born and they told me that they would be moving out of state shortly after we took her 6 month pictures. I think I am still in denial that I really won’t get to take photos for her 9 month and 1 year milestones, but they are moving west to South Dakota this week! You can see from the photos that we have had some super fun times with their children while taking photos!! I feel like I have grown to be good friends with mom and dad, and their kids are so special to me!! It was really difficult to pick out some of my favorites from over the years! I am going to miss them so much, they are like family! I’ve already warned them that they should be expecting a visitor with a camera, and if the weather cooperates I will make it to do the cake smash!!
So for anyone reading this who doesn’t know me, I hope that you understand that I truly LOVE my work as a photographer! I treasure all the families who give me the opportunity to be a part of your families and watch your children grow up. I love to be there to watch your little ones growing and reaching different milestones! I dream of someday shooting a wedding for one of the kids that I took pictures of as a baby, that to me would be the ultimate honor as a family photographer! Whether I am in your life for one session or for a lifetime of images, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for allowing me into your lives and being an important part of mine!!!!!
